How we check our facts
Wellspent's guides, glossary and reports help people choose and pay a financial advisor. These are the rules every piece follows.
Every figure has a dated source
Prices come from the Wellspent fee report, which keeps a price only when the exact words stating it appear on a fee-only firm's own website, and shows when those pages were checked. Registration, disciplinary history and business ties come from SEC records, chiefly Form ADV and the SEC's adviser search. Each guide lists its sources at the bottom, and figures quoted from the fee report update with each quarterly edition.
Named authors
Guides on find.wellspent.co are written by Nathan Prescott. Articles for advisors on wellspent.co are written by Sophia Carrington. Fee-only advisors who review a piece are credited by name on it; they review it for accuracy.
What the dates mean
"Updated" moves only when the page changes in substance or the data it quotes does, such as a new fee report edition. It never moves just because a page was republished.
No paid placement
No advisor or company pays to be named, ranked or recommended in a guide. Comparison pages that name other services use their published prices and terms, with the date we read them. How advisor records are built is on the methodology page.
